Get ready for Turner Prize 2019

This autumn the best-known visual arts prize in the world comes to Turner Contemporary in Margate from 28 September 2019 to 12 January 2020.

This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for Margate and Thanet. It is also a once in a lifetime opportunity for your business. Anticipated higher footfall to the gallery means greater opportunities to encourage visitors to Margate, to get them moving across the town and the rest of the Isle, seeing more, staying for longer and spending money in the destination and potentially your business.

To help you get involved, we have developed an information pack that gives you all the information and inspiration you need to share in the success, attract new audiences, new business and all of this in the off-peak autumn/winter season.

Plus, there’s some useful links to help you learn more about Turner Prize 2019, so you can share this information with your customers and guests:

Three new Inspirational Travel Experiences will help visitors discover the many things to see and do, not just in Margate, but across the Isle. You could suggest these when speaking to customers or add links to your website to help attract people to the area and perhaps get them to stay longer.

Thanet District Council: Getting the Town Ready

There is a dedicated, operational action plan that crosses almost every department at the council, to ensure that the area is looking clean and welcoming for visitors.

This involves street cleansing; grounds maintenance including a re-surfaced pathway at Buenos Ayres and works to the TS Eliot shelter; bin repairs and replacements; deep cleans; landscaping; graffiti removal and winter planting. The Harbour Arm toilets will be refurbished. The council has organised a preparatory litter pick involving our officers, alongside staff from Dreamland and Turner Contemporary.

The council has also worked closely with the Probation Service to get Community Payback teams to support its work weeding and cleaning the open spaces around Margate seafront and Cliftonville.
