Promoting Each Other
Cross Promotion

You are probably asked on a daily basis questions from your customers about the local area and for recommendations on what to see and do.

Harness this natural interest and use this as an opportunity to promote the whole destination.  Sharing information about attractions, services, events and places of interest in Thanet will enrich a visitor’s stay, and enhance your customer service.  Don’t forget, we are all ambassadors for our destination.

  • Start by listing all the questions you get from your customers on a regular basis

Where are the toilets, what is the nearest beach, or where can I get the best fish and chips. Then use this to create an information sheet for your visitor, put recommendations on your website, or make suggestions via social media.  Brief your staff so they are informed and able to share with visitors.
  • Make up a resource pack

Include leaflets (available from the Thanet Visitor Information Centre), maps and timetables, so you have information to hand.
  • Get out and about

When you are a small business, it is hard to take time to visit other places, but there is nothing more powerful than a personal recommendation, having sound knowledge and pride in your area. Ask other businesses to your venue, so they are aware of what you are offering.  Word of mouth is still the most powerful form of marketing, so make sure people are talking positively about you.
  • Why not try doing an A-Z of your area?

Recommending something for your visitors using each letter of the alphabet can be fun and challenging. This way you might think of some more quirky or hidden places.
