Development

In easy reach of London – just  76 minutes from St Pancras International – and on the doorstep of mainland Europe, Thanet is fast becoming the go-to 21st century destination of choice for short breaks, day trips and family holidays.

Opening of the internationally renowned Turner Contemporary gallery in Margate, revitalisation of Dreamland amusement park, and improvements to Ramsgate’s Royal Harbour and popular marina are driving the rapid growth of new supporting businesses.

These include prestigious boutique hotels, state-of-the art B&Bs and self-catering accommodation, fine dining and gourmet eateries, art galleries and independent shops.

Expansion of businesses on the districts business parks is being accompanied by the development of many new homes and offices – all boosting demand for hotels and other tourism, leisure and hospitality businesses to meet the needs of businesses, visitors and residents.

Thanet District Council and Invest Thanet, a new public-private partnership, are helping businesses keen to come to the Isle, be part of its regeneration and enjoy the lifestyle benefits of its tremendous coastline.

A Cultural Tourism sub-group of Invest Thanet is focusing on the strategic sustainable development of the Isle to meet the increasing demand from visitors and residents to experience cultural and creative events and  exhibitions.

Invest Thanet and Thanet District Council, and their networks of investment partners such as Locate in Kent, are perfectly placed to help new and potential investors in the tourism, leisure and hospitality sector.

Available support includes identifying appropriate funding streams – such as interest-free loans through the £35 million Expansion East Kent programme – advice on appropriate available sites and properties, and access to valuable business expertise with strong local and industry-specific knowledge.
